MATTER MEDIA PRODUCTIONS is a film and media company based on planet earth, creating and facilitating stories of all mediums across the ever expanding universe of screens large and small. We are always looking for new talented ‘there is no box’ people with a drive and desire to color outside the lines and make a visceral impact. If that’s you or you’re interested in learning more about our company, our philosophy or becoming a social or investment partner, please contact us. We love stories. We hope you do to.
We are currently developing 4 scripts, two of which are in motion; ‘The Beautiful Letdown’ is currently in pre-production in Los Angeles and ‘Seconds’ which is in the last stages of development and will hopefully shoot immediately following production wrap of ‘The Beautiful Letdown’ in Austin, TX.
is written and directed by Jeffrey Travis and is based on the well-reviewed novel Marshall Hollenzer Is Driving. The Beautiful Letdown is a multi-layered drama centered around a zealous slacker who wants to save the world but can’t even save himself. Three intertwining story-lines follow characters who will awaken their true purpose in life, dealing with themes of forgiveness, courage and social justice. The script been compared to films such as Crash, Magnolia, About Schmidt, Slumdog Millionaire and The Shawshank Redemption.
is written and directed by Matt Patterson and is based on his original play “The Greatest of These”previously performed to sold out audiences in Los Angeles. Seconds is a dramatic comedy about faith, hope and love… in the form of a young man that is hospitalized for seeing something that may or may not be real. He must come to terms with his inability to say I love you, face his past and get out of the psych ward before it’s too late. Seconds has been compared in style and audience to Garden State, Benny and Joon, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Matter Media has co-produced a one-hour live music TV-show pilot with the Creative Arts Group (CAG) called “Live from the Living Room” (LRL). The pilot episode includes local Austin band Deadman and centers around not only the band’s music but also the story of frontman Steven Collins life and music. It is a show that cuts deeper than you’d expect and offers a unique insight into the life of an artist, like you’ve been invited for a private concert in their living room. Here’s a teaser clip from the show, let us know what you think!
At Matter Media Studios we focus on creative storytelling… and that’s not just limited to film. Occasionally we are lucky enough to partner with companies that want to think outside the box and are willing to let us take an ordinary concept and make it extraordinary. Together.
Our most recent opportunity was with John Deere, who allowed us to take an idea from what started as a 30 minute recorded instructional lecture… to this…
This is one of the three shorts produced for John Deere in fall 2009.
Meeting set up next week to meet with Owen Egerton, the author of the book ‘The Beautiful Letdown’ is based on, excited to hear what is in his pipeline (he just sold a script with Cameron Diaz attached!), and maybe co-produce an audio book for The Beautiful Letdown to help cross-pollinate our marketing of the film and his book. For now… Turkey Day!
Director Jeffrey Travis met with IMAX developers for his film “Flatland”, We are helping raise the remaining completion funds to enable the timely release of the IMAX 3D film in 2010…. lot’s of potential return on that considering such a steady fixed audience!
Matter Media Studios recieved 25K Angel Investment for studio development. Things are starting to really cook here are the studios, money’s coming in for the features we’re developing and our company as a whole. Excited to see what’s coming around the corner!
Matter Media Studios meets with heads of development and distribution at AMC and Sony Pictures, some potential investors and some old friends. We’re liking the buzz around what we’re trying to do.
Production begins on three short films for client John Deere in San Antonio, TX. These “OLC” films are CSI style films with investigators searching out the reasons behind engine breakdowns – and ultimately inform equipment owners and dealers about lubricant products. We’re excited to be working with such a great company in such an outside the box creative risk.
